Anniversary and a digital detox

Saturday was our 32nd wedding anniversary. We had planned to go out to dinner even though we were both fighting colds.

At 2pm our electricity, cell service and data went out. The entire Yucatan peninsula was out over 2.2 million people.

One thing our Airbnb does not have is a generator or flashlights. So once it got dark we used our phones the best we could.

I tried to take a selfie of us but it was literally completely dark even with a flash. Since everything was down there weren’t any restaurants open and our stove is electric. But we made due sitting on our balcony in the dark eating chips and salsa.

It was actually really fun. Sleeping without air conditioning wasn’t as great so we were happy when it went back on at 2am.

  1. Who would have imagined that type of anniversary 32 years ago — celebrating with chips and salsa in the Yucatan Peninsula without power (never mind the magical camera phones and shared housing options we now have).

What a wonderful and fantastic journey you guys have had in the ensuing years!

    1. Thank you! And yes crazy to think Mexico, power outage, cell phones. The chips and salsa I could have predicted.

  2. Ohhhhh, you two are gorgeous❤️

We had fish & chips in a bar on our 30th because it was the only thing open🤪
Then again, we got engaged in a bar… so maybe that’s our thing

Glad you are ok and that the power outage didn’t last too too long

  3. Happy Belated Anniversary! 💕
I’ve been off the grid a little bit. I had my 87-year-old uncle in from Japan this past week, I’ve been his Uber all week long.
