Puzzle Mat

I love puzzles but rarely do then because we never have enough room to lay out a puzzle. Usually we only have a dining room table that also doubles as an office.

When my parents visited a few weeks ago they brought a puzzle. I got a Puzzle mat for us to use. It’s basically a felt yoga mat.

I was skeptical but it really did work. The top photo was us doing the puzzle in the “social room” in our building. Then we rolled it up.

When we rolled it back out it really did keep it all in place.

We finished it a few days ago. I’ve already bought another puzzle to do thanks to the puzzle mat. P.S. this is not a paid advertisement for the puzzle mat. Although I would be a puzzle mat spokesperson. That’s how much I love the puzzle mat.

Treatment day

Since it’s always the same I didn’t take too many pictures. But don’t worry the jellos, guest ham sandwich, cookies and apples were all there.

This time I convinced them to let me wear a tank top and not the hospital gown. After some back and forth in Spanish that I didn’t understand they agreed.

This fruit plate was really good. Perhaps the best one yet.

The omelette was just ok. The taco meat was pork this time. The watermelon juice was good and of course more jello.

Due to a bunch of delays I was there all day like 7 hours all day. It all was fine, just long. This time I was glad to have food and a comfy room to hang out in. I napped, watched Netflix, read and practiced Spanish with my doctor and nurses.

Rainbows and Halloween

On Friday there were either a lot of rainbows or just one that followed us all the way to the gym.

I think multiple, Jeff thinks one. Then we turned the corner, lost sight of the rainbow, but saw sunset.

Then at the gym I mentioned it seemed early for Halloween decorations.

Jeff didn’t notice this.

He did see this. If he had missed this I’d be worried.

Ironing and juice

Jeff ironing is pretty normal. Jeff ironing my hospital invoice not as much. When I have treatment the hospital gives me a paper printout of the invoice. I then take a scan and submit it to insurance. This last one for $6,000 was too creased to scan. Jeff came to my rescue with the iron.

Ironing my invoice made Jeff thirsty so I made him a nice orangish brown juice. It looked gross but was surpringly good for a carrot/apple/ginger/spinach juice.

Shopping

We went to a drug store to pick up one medication. When the pharmacist told Jeff it was buy one get one half off Jeff got very excited. He must have been a discount pharmacist in a past life, or is channeling his granfather who was a pharmacist. While I find buying meds as, exciting as watching grass grow, Jeff thinks of it as a scavendar hunt. After Jeff spent what felt like hours bit was probably only ten minutes talking and laughing with the pharmacist we finally made it to the grocery store.

This is a normal supermarket that is not wholesale and doesn’t sell to restaurants which begs the question, what are people cooking? I put a regular can next to these giant mushroom cans for scale.

Who needs a vat of mayo?

The giant bag of crushed tomatos I can sort of get. The vat of ketchup? Not so much.

Don’t get me started on the oil.

Walked to the gym vs Uber

It was a quiet day but also exciting because it was “cool” enough to walk to the gym. It’s a 20 minute walk, so perfect for a cardio warmup. But, it’s been so hot we’ve had to Uber both ways.

We joined an Anytime Fitness gym. I think they are in the US too. The great thing about about this gym is it’s open in the weekends. The other 2 gyms we joined closed at 3pm on Saturday and all day Sunday.

Traditional dancing and a very weird crepe

My parents started the day at the Cathedral. After six months I’ve still not been inside. Every time I’ve tried it’s been closed or there is mass. So I’m really glad they got to go in.

In the evening we went out to dinner at a restaurant in Parque San Lucia where they have live music and dancing.

Can’t wait for this amazing concert.

Let’s rush the stage for a better view.

Wow look at the dancers.

Jeff and I enjoyed it for about ten minutes.

My parents have a bigger tolerance for traditional music so they liked it for 16 minutes.

After we fled the crowded plaza we stopped for a marquesita. This is a crispy crepe with parmasean cheese and Nutella. You can also add a bunch of other toppings.

Jeff loves Nutella but thought it was a weird combo.

I love parm cheese but thought it was a weird combo. Both of my parents agreed.

We did get a photo in front of a door. My parents left early Friday morning. We had such a great visit with them.

Mayan Museum with my parents

I promised my parents that we would not overdo it in the heat. But the first thing we did was climb all these stairs in 103 degrees to even get in the museum. You know when the railings are too hot to touch it’s not a good idea to go up the steps.

This statue agreed and felt sorry for us.

My parents were really good about reading the history and learning about the history of the Mayans while I goofed off.

This guy was impressed with them but still gave me the side eye.

This was my attempt at arty photo incorporating the ancient Mayan ball game with a photo of my dad.

We all agreed that the statue on the right seemed to be holding a hotdog.

We would have stayed longer, but the museum wasn’t air conditioned. We almost had to be carried to the door.

This guy also thought the museum was way too hot.

Later that night after we all hydrated we went to dinner at a restaurant serving traditional Yucatecan food. There were several women making tortillas who gave my mom and impromptu class.

Hers came out really well.

Jeff also got into making tortillas.

For some reason the only let him make a mini tortilla.
