Jeff and I have recently discovered the mamey. I can’t remember how Jeff thought to buy one.

They don’t exactly look delicious at the store.

They look like if a kiwi and an old football had a baby. The above photo is a mamey next to a kiwi.

Although when you cut it in half it’s more like a orange colored avacado. They ripen like an avacado.
Saturday – unripe, Sunday – unripe, Monday morning unripe, Monday from 2:00pm -3:00pm ripe, Monday after 3pm -rotten

If you get it when it’s ripe you can eat ir with a spoon and it tastes like a mix between a sweet potato and a pumpkin. So good.

The way it ripens and then transforms into a rotten fruit so fast is the hallmark of a “diva fruit”.
I think I need to hire a food ripening tester. If my fruit is going to be a diva I need to be one too.
So how can you tell when is ripe, if the window is so short?
It’s like an avacado, it has a give to it, but if we wait too long if feels like it’s ripe but then we cut into it and it’s brown inside.
You are brave to try that because it doesn’t look too appetizing!
Agreed. That’s why it took this long to even try it.
😋
Love how you guys are so open minded to try new things!
Fruit yes. Seafood or weird insects, no.
